Women's Heart Health

Women can experience cardiovascular disease differently from men. Our women's heart health program addresses the unique risk factors, life-stage considerations and presentations of cardiovascular disease in women.

What to expect

The program runs in three steps, each led by your Cardiologist.

1. Initial Cardiologist consultation

Comprehensive review of the patient's history, concerns and goals with their physician.

2. Diagnostic testing

Advanced testing tailored to the patient's specific needs and cardiovascular risk profile.

3. Personalised plan and follow-up

A comprehensive treatment and prevention plan with ongoing Cardiologist support, monitoring and review.

Services

The program addresses the areas of women's heart health where risk is most often under-recognised.

  • Pregnancy-related cardiac evaluation
  • Menopause and heart health
  • Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD)
  • Microvascular disease assessment
  • Stress cardiomyopathy evaluation
  • Autoimmune conditions and heart health

Why women's heart health matters

“Almost every hour of every day, a woman in Australia dies of heart disease. Yet many believe heart disease is a male disease. Heart disease can happen at any age for women, with risk factors changing throughout life's course, including during pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause. Women have unique biological characteristics and social experiences that can affect their risk of a heart attack or stroke, and these are often under-recognised or misinterpreted. It is important for everyone to understand these risk factors and warning signs to better support the women in your lives and take preventive action.”
