Direct cardiac investigation referrals

Zenith Cardiology supports general practitioners in investigating appropriate cardiac symptoms and conditions without requiring every patient to first attend a specialist consultation. This contemporary pathway alleviates backlogs, assists necessary triaging, and provides timely peace of mind for patients without abnormalities in investigations.

Where clinically indicated, refer directly for:

  • Echocardiography
  • Exercise stress echocardiography
  • 24-hour to 14-day Holter monitoring
  • 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
  • 12-lead ECG
  • Bubble studies

Investigations are interpreted and formally reported by our Cardiologists for the referring practitioner. Medicare eligibility depends on the relevant MBS item requirements, clinical indication and applicable claiming restrictions.

Referral templates and resources

Add our referral template directly to your practice software, and download the MBS indication guide. Referrals are accepted via Medical Objects, email or fax.

The MBS indication guide is a concise reference to commonly accepted indications for echocardiography, stress echocardiography, Holter monitoring and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. The guide is intended as a clinical reference only, and Medicare eligibility remains subject to the current MBS item descriptor.

Why timely and accessible cardiac investigation matters

Clinically significant risk can be present while diagnostic evaluation is still pending, and barriers to timely specialist assessment are not confined to rural or remote settings.
